Whitehouse on verge of Top 10 through 36 holes

KENNESAW, Ga. – Erica Whitehouse carded a 7-over par 151 through the first two rounds to lead the Charleston Southern women's golf program on day one of the Pinetree Women's Collegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia, Monday. The score has her high on the individual leaderboard, as one of five players a stroke out of the Top 10.

WHITEHOUSE'S STRONG DAY
The first-year Buccaneer tied her lowest 36-hole total since joining the program last summer as a transfer from Christopher Newport. She recovered from a tough stretch to start her day with a run of 1-under par for 12-consecutive holes, including pars on 11. A birdie on the par-4, 374-yard No. 18 was the only non-par during the span that covered No. 15 through No. 8. A series of bogies pushed her score to a 5-over 77 in the first round.

She turned things around quickly during her next trip around the course, dropping in pars on seven of the first-nine holes after starting again on No. 10. Once she made the turn to the front nine, she put together a three-hole stretch on the par-4, 385-yard No. 1, the par-5, 496-yard No. 2 and the par-4, 353-yard No. 3 in which she carded a birdie each time. Four more birdies on the front helped keep her score low, as she tallied a 2-over par 74.

THREE BUCS SHARE SAME SPOT
A trio of Whitehouse's teammates, Libby Singleton, Madison Freeman and Caroline Engelbredt, all registered an 11-over 155 on day one. Singleton had a nine-stroke improvement between rounds, dropping her score from an 82 to a 73, while Freeman cut five strokes off her rounds, earning a 75 during the second round after beginning with an 80. Engelbredt was the most consistent with a 78-77 for her two scores.

Singleton, last week's top CSU performer at the Briar's Creek Invitational, notched 10 pars throughout her opening round, including a three-hole span covering No. 3 through No. 5. She found greater success in the second round, tallying her first birdies of the day on the par-4, 338-yard No. 14 and the par-5, 486-yard No. 16, as she concluded the back nine at 1-under after hitting first off the No. 10 tee. She wrapped around making the turn a span of eight-straight pars, starting at No. 17 and taking it through No. 6. She added one more par, on No. 8, for the 73, the second-lowest round score of any Bucs player Monday.

Freeman recovered from a tough stretch to start to play Even on her last-five holes of the back nine after starting on No. 10. During that period, she carded a birdie on No. 16, using the momentum to record four-straight birdies as she made the turn and concluded the run on No. 2. Her first round ended with another four-hole span of pars, from No. 6 through No. 9. In the second round, she notched four birdies, including three among her first-nine holes, as she came in under par on the par-3, 161-yard No. 12 and then back-to-back on the par-4, 350-yard No. 15 and No. 16. She added her final birdie of the day on the par-3, 151-yard No. 4, helping her to climb the leaderboard and post the same score as Singleton.

There wasn't as much variation in the two rounds scores for Engelbredt to complete the trio. She earned 13 pars during round one, with five coming on the back nine, all in a row from No. 12 through No. 16, before completing the front nine with pars on all but No. 2, as she ran off seven consecutive to wrap up the round. In her second 18 hole trip around the course, she mixed in a pair of birdies, on No. 12 and No. 14 before carding three pars from No. 15 through No. 17. The front nine was again friendly, as she found pars on five of her last-six holes, including four-in-a-row, taking the Even hole score from No. 4 through No. 7.

FRIBERG ROUNDS OUT THE SQUAD
The other remaining player competing for the Charleston Southern team is Isabell Friberg. She struggled throughout the day but managed seven pars in the first round and nine more during the second round. She managed a pair of birdies in the second 18-hole set, on No. 16 and the par-3, 153-yard No. 8.
