Offense stalls in series opener

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Charleston Southern managed just one hit and kept Gardner-Webb in-check offensively, as well, but the home-standing Runnin' Bulldogs claimed a 2-0 series-opening win Friday night in Big South softball action.

LEWIS PROVIDES BASE HIT
Designated player Raleigh Lewis tallied the only Charleston Southern (10-17, 2-5 Big South) hit of the evening, a single to lead off the fourth inning off Andrea Lyon.

JUNGE IN THE CIRCLE
The Bucs turned to their ace, Annah Junge, to combat the Gardner-Webb (12-12, 4-3 Big South) attack. She struck out nine and allowed just four hits, including two doubles, herself over her 6.0 innings.

MIDDLE INNING DIFFERENCE
It was the fourth inning where the Runnin' Bulldogs did their damage. Abbey Goodrum started the spark with a one-out double and Molly Montgomery followed with her own in the next at-bat, bringing Goodrum home for the game's first run. A batter later, an Araceli Pesqueira single plated Montgomery to grow the lead.

UP NEXT
The two league rivals renew the weekend set with a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is slated for Noon on ESPN+.
