CHARLESTON, S.C. – A three-week hiatus for the Charleston Southern men's golf program ends this week, as the Buccaneers return to the links Monday through Wednesday at the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate at the True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island.
BREAK IN THE ACTION
The last time CSU was on the course was March 7-8 at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken when it tied for ninth out of 15 schools in the event. It was the team's best result, in terms of placement, this season, and it will look to carry that momentum with it to the coast. The 877 team total also was the lowest the Bucs had tallied all season, bolstered by a 12-over 292 in the final round.
THUMBNAILS SKETCHES
It's a tight bunch near the top of the season stroke-average leaderboard for Charleston Southern, as Ben Carroll (73.27) holds the slight nod over Alan Smith (73.73) and Ethan Willis (73.94) through six events in 2021-22.
Carroll opened the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate with a 1-under 69, his third round of the year in the 60s, and finished the event at 3-over 213, tying for 14th. The only tournament in which he carded a better score was at the CSU-hosted Daniel Island Intercollegiate (Oct. 31-Nov. 1) when he registered a 1-under 215 to tie for seventh among the 104 individuals.
Smith's best scores came during the fall, including a 2-under 214 at the season-opening Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate (Sept. 27-28) and a 1-under 215 at the Grandover Collegiate (Oct. 23-24). He will be looking to get back in that range, this week.
Willis is a first-year Bucs player as a graduate transfer into the program and he finished near the middle of the field at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate but owns a Top-10 result, matching Smith with a seventh-place tie at the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate after tallying a low of 68 in his first round wearing the blue and gold.
