CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's golf stays within the state borders – something it will do all spring – as it heads to Aiken for the 25th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at the Palmetto Golf Club. The course, steeped in history with its founding in 1892 as the fourth-oldest course in the United States, will play 6,617 yards to a par 70.
LOOKING TO MOVE UP
The Buccaneers began their spring campaign two weeks ago – Feb. 21 and 22 – at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, placing 13th out of the 17 schools. CSU will be looking to crack the Top-10 team leaderboard for the first time since the season-opening Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate, Sept. 27-28, 2021, in Gadsden, Alabama.
LOUDIN GOES LOW
Despite the team score at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, Caleb Loudin found some success on his own scorecard. He lowered his score each round, finishing with a 1-over 73 during the last-18 holes, setting a new career best.
FRESHMAN CONSISTENCY
Another factor into the team's play has been freshman Griffin Tarver. He nearly posted identical scores across the 54-holes at Wexford, carding a 77-77-79 and enters this week with a career stroke average of 77.00 in the 12 rounds in which he has played wearing the blue and gold. His career-low 72 came during the second round of the fall-closing Daniel Island Intercollegiate, an event in which the Buccaneers played host.
