CHARLESTON, S.C. – A return to CSU Softball Complex one last time this spring awaits the Charleston Southern softball program, as the Buccaneers play host to North Carolina A&T in Big South action Wednesday. The rescheduled games from a postponed series April 22-23 begin at Noon with the squad honoring its senior class throughout the afternoon.
FINAL WEEK IS HERE
Wednesday's doubleheader opens the final week of the regular season for the Bucs, fighting for a spot in the Big South Tournament next week in Farmville, Virginia. Charleston Southern is currently in the sixth spot in the league standings with five games remaining. The top-six teams at the end of the weekend qualify for the conference tournament.
RECENT GAMES
The Buccaneers are 22-26 overall and 8-13 in the league following their weekend series at Radford. CSU held the Highlanders to five runs in every game, earning its only triumph of the set in a doubleheader opener Saturday, 8-5.
HER BAT WAS ON FIRE
Raleigh Lewis was the offensive spark at Radford, finishing the weekend batting a blistering .700, including 6-of-7 (.857) at the plate during the doubleheader. She was a perfect 4-of-4 in game one with two RBI in the win, starting the rally with a top-of-the-fifth single before plating the two go-ahead runs in the sixth with another single. She reached third on the bases-clearing single, as the right fielder misplayed the ball and it rolled to the fence.
She was 2-of-3 in the second game, getting hits in each of her first two at-bats, again adding an RBI to her stat line. In the series opener Friday, Lewis registered a double, her only extra-base hit of the weekend.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
North Carolina A&T brings a 13-31 overall and 3-18 Big South ledger into Wednesday's set, having lost its last-four games. The Aggies were swept over the weekend in a league series against Presbyterian with their last victory coming in the series finale at Hampton April 16 before a four-game pause, resulting in these games being rescheduled.
SERIES HISTORY
Charleston Southern owns a dominating 23-6 advantage in the all-time series, dating back to a nine-game win streak to open the stretch in 1987. Included in that span was a 23-0 triumph in Atlanta March 7, 1992. CSU has won each of the last-six matchups.
