Beilstein scores late to give CSU a tie on the road

CONWAY, S.C. – Gracen Beilstein scored her first collegiate goal at the most opportune time, pulling Charleston Southern even on the scoring column and forcing its first tie of the season in a 2-2 draw at Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina, Wednesday night.

An attempted clear for the Chanticleers was intercepted by Beilstein, who lofted a high-arching shot just over the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Katelyn Kellogg to create the 2-2 tie in the 82nd minute. The attempt came from 35 yards out and entered the cage just under the crossbar.

Under new NCAA rules this fall, the game was declared a tie after 90 minutes as no overtime periods will be played during regular season competition.

Bri Robinson had dented the scoreboard first with her third score in four games, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and delivering it home past Kellogg in the 14th minute. Her three goals move her into a tie with Dakota Fiedler for second on the squad, trailing Jenea Knight's four. Robinson now has 10 points – including a team-best four assists – to equal Knight for the most this fall.

Coastal Carolina (1-2-1) then mounted a comeback behind a pair of Megan Brouse goals. She knotted the score in the 31st minute on a Taylor Tolson assist, leveling the scoreline entering the intermission, before tacking on her second of the night in the 51st minute on a Julia Ziegenfuss assist.

The tie is the first for Charleston Southern (2-1-1) since Sept. 2, 2021, in a 0-0 clash against Stetson at the CSU Soccer Field.
