CSU Captures VCU Shootout in Sudden Death Playoff

Richmond, Va. – Charleston Southern took down VCU on the fourth hole a sudden death playoff to win the VCU Shootout, which took place Monday and Tuesday. The Bucs erased an eight shot deficit in the final round to force that playoff, and took care of business in the playoff to win a tournament with three newcomers leading the way.

Theodor Takman (-11) and Layne Lambert (-11) led the Bucs with two sub-70 rounds each, including a final round 67 for Takman and a second round 65 for Lambert. Dewi John (-6) closed out the 54 hole tournament with a final round 66 and moved up 23 spots on the leaderboard.

Returner Ben Carroll (-4) finished inside the top 30 on the leaderboard aided by his first round 69. CSU's other returning athlete, Griffin Tarver (+6), was best in the second round, posting a 70.

"What a day for our Men," said Head Coach Jordan Jeffers. "Coming back from 8 shots down and winning a playoff to take home the hardware is something special. I really want to give a shout out to our returners Ben Carroll and Griffin Tarver. They have done a great job making our new guys feel at home. We couldn't start out this strong without great leadership from our returners. Excited to see what this team is capable of this season."
