CARY, N.C. – Micah Gilpatric finished the mens 6K with a time of 17:24 and crossed the line first at the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday. The Buccaneer men's and women's teams both finished in second behind the hosting NC State.
At the 2.9K mark, Gilpatric was in a pack with two NC State runners, but separated himself down the stretch to finish four seconds ahead of the second place runner. Alan Deogracias was the next Buccaneer across the line, finishing seventh with a time of 18:05. Gavin Kuhlenbeck, Sam Waldin, and Rob Howorth rounded out the Bucs' top 5 that totaled 48 points and an average time of 18:11.
The Women placed second behind the national champion NC State squad that took six of the first seven spots. The Buccaneers' trio of
Keerstin Augustin,
Sarah McCartney, and
Anne Akagi paced each other through the early parts of the race. Augustin would cross the line at 17:44 with McCartney soon after at 18:13 and Akagi at 18:33.
Zanelle Willemse (19:03) and
Sarah Jacobs (19:19) completed CSU's top 5 with 86 points and an average time of 18:34.
