Bucs Earn Huge Road Win Over Big South Favorites

FARMVILLE, Va. – Charleston Southern men's basketball picked up a huge road win Saturday evening, topping league-favorite Longwood, 75-63, inside Willett Hall.

HERE COMES THE SHOW
Claudell Harris Jr. had things working early and often to pace the Charleston Southern effort. In the early happenings of the opening half, there was a stretch that saw Harris Jr. knock down threes on three-straight possessions. Tahlik Chavez and Cheikh Faye each knocked down a three as part of that sequence as well. Harris Jr. finished the contest with 23.

HOT HANDS
Charleston Southern answered the strong first half effort with a second half effort that measured up. The Bucs never let their advantage fall under double-digits after taking a 12-point lead into the midway break. The Lancers were in the bonus for a majority of the closing stanza, but it was again Charleston Southern that answered the call and continued to hit shots and get stops to complete the effort.

FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE
The Buccaneers made a living at the charity stripe tonight, led by RJ Johnson's 11 attempts. Johnson converted each of his 11 tries, all of them coming in the second half as the guard finished with 13 points while just needing one made field goal. That field goal came with a free throw itself, as Johnson made a huge play in the closing minutes of the second half to get three the old-fashioned way. As a team, Charleston Southern finished 22-23 from the line.

DOUBLE DIGITS
The Buccaneers saw four reach double figures in the contest, Taje' Kelly carrying the most impressive line with another double-double at 12 points and 10 boards. Harris Jr. led the way in the points department with 23 while adding eight rebounds and Johnson added 13 of his own. Kalib Clinton rounded out the double-digit club with 12 points to match Kelly's while he also chased down five rebounds.

UP NEXT
The Bucs return home to the Buc Dome Wednesday, February 1 as they play hosts to Gardner-Webb in their second meeting of the season. The action is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
