Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team split their double-header on Saturday in day two of the CSU Buc Up Tournament. The Bucs (3-1) fell to the UMass Minutewomen 6-1 in the first game, while defeating the Providence Friars 7-2 in the final game.
Game 1
The Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Ashley Meckley singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Gracie Prince. Two batters later,
Harper Schoeneweis continued her fast start to the season with an RBI single to give the Bucs the lead.
UMass answered in the second inning, scratching off three runs off of RHP
Riley Lauffer, who started the game for the Bucs. A throwing error by the Bucs tied things up at one, while a sacrifice-fly and an RBI ground out gave UMass the lead.
The Minutewomen added two more in the sixth inning and another run in the seventh with a home run to left-center field, giving them the 6-1 victory.
Lauffer, who was charged with the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season. She went 7.0 innings allowing six runs (5 earned) on seven hits and struck out three while also walking three.
Game 2
The Bucs got the scoring started early in the first inning, as Prince crushed her first home run of the season to left-center field to give CSU the 1-0 lead.
The Friars (4-5) answered in the third inning with a two-run home run off of
Annah Junge to give them a 2-1 lead.
That is when the Bucs' bats woke up, as put four points on the board in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Schoenweis led off the inning with a four-pitch walk. That was followed by a single by Lexie Markle and Maddie Lee. After that,
Ashlyn Cribb reached on a throwing error, scoring Schoenweis to tie the game at two, and
Lacy Johnson smacked a two-run double to left field to extend the lead.
The Bucs picked up two more in the sixth inning. Meckley hit a sac-fly, scoring Johnson, while Prince hit a single to score Johnson to make it 7-2.
Junge improved to 3-0 on the season, going the distance for the third time in as many starts. She gave up two runs, three hits and struck out 10.

The Bucs wrap up the CSU Buc Up Tournament tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. with another matchup against Providence. This game will be streamed on ESPN+.
