Strong Second Half Leads Bulldogs Over Bucs

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - After being outscored by 17 points in the second half, the Charleston Southern men's basketball team dropped their seventh-straight game on Wednesday, falling to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs 80-62. 
Kalib Clinton led the way for the Bucs (8-20, 4-13 in conference) with 19 points on 6/12 shooting (3/5 from three).  Claudell Harris Jr. was right behind him with 16 points, and Taje Kelly had 14 points. 
First Half
It was back-and-forth to start the game, as both teams traded baskets until the first media timeout. Then, the Bucs went on a little run. The lead got to as high as nine points, as the Bucs scored the next 10 points to take a 21-12 lead after a three-pointer by Harris Jr. 
Back came the Bulldogs, who tied the game at 24 with 6:25 left in the first half after going on a 12-3 run. The run would continue, as Asheville took their first lead since earlier in the half with a dunk from Drew Pember to make it 26-24. 
The Bulldogs took their lead to six points, but the Bucs fought back and got a jumper from Tyeree Bryan to fall with 44 seconds left to pull within one at halftime. 
Second Half
The Bulldogs started the half strong, s they took their lead to double digits with a three pointer prior to the first media timeout, making it 50-40 with 15:43 left. 
Out of the timeout, Harris Jr. made it a five-point game with 14:30 left, but the Bulldogs continued on their run, pushing their lead back to double digits with under eight minutes left. 
Their lead got to as high as 20 points, when the Bucs gave up a three-pointer with 1:16 left to go to make it 80-60. 
Next Up The Bucs are back at home for the final time of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, when they host Presbyterian at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
