Bucs Split Saturday Twinbill with Georgia in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. – Charleston Southern baseball had an historic Saturday twinbill on the road at Georgia, taking the latter of two for the program's first ever win over the Bulldogs in 11 total meetings.

GAME 2 | CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 5, GEORGIA 4
Charleston Southern (6-10) got things going early as they were the first to break the scoring in the first frame. Chandler Tuupo opened the scoring as his double down the line in right brought Ike George around to score. Jared Payne answered the call as well in the frame, as he matched Tuupo's double down the line with an identical one to score Tuupo and give the Bucs the early 2-0 advantage.

Georgia (12-4) answered right away, matching Charleston Southern's two runs in the first with two of their own in one swing. Charlie Condon hit a two-run shot as Connor Tate scored on the swing.

The Bucs reclaimed the lead in the third when Tuupo's single to center was enough to score George for the second time in the nightcap in a lead the CSU would not give back. Jaylin Rae then returned the favor to Tuupo with. A sacrifice fly to center to score him and double the CSU advantage to 4-2.

The fifth frame was the second time that both teams scored in the same innings as Jared Payne was responsible for the CSU run with a double to left center to score Bryce Brock and make it 5-2. Georgia got its second home run of the game in the same inning as Josh Stinson took one out to left and make it 5-3.

Georgia would find one more in the seventh with a Mason LePlante triple to score Will David, but Charleston Southern would shut the door the rest of the way and keep the Bulldogs off the board to see out the 5-4 victory.

Zac Robinson (W, 2-1) takes the win for Charleston Southern after recording nine outs in relief of CSU starter Sam Massey. Robinson gave up just one earned on one hit and three punchies. Massey looked good as well in his three frames of work, giving up the two earned on one swing as part of five total hits. Kaleb Hill finished the contest recording the final nine outs to earn his first save of the year, giving up one earned on three hits and four strikeouts.

Nolan Crisp (L, 1-2) was charged with the loss after giving up four earned across two innings in his start. The Bulldogs used four more arms to navigate through the contest, only one of the four being charged with any earned runs.

GAME ONE | GEORGIA 15, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 0
The first game of the afternoon was a statement for the Bulldogs, as Georgia made quick work with a seven inning win over Charleston Southern. The Bucs were held to just one hit along the seven frames, as Michael Gibson's single in the final frame broke up the no-no.

Georgia found six runs in the first inning highlighted by a bases-loaded double to right from the bat of Spikes to make it 6-0. The second saw The Bulldogs add four more in the second inning, as that frame featured two sacrifice flies and a solo shot from Connor Tate to go along with an RBI-single.

The third and the sixth innings saw two runs, each, for Georgia and one more in the fourth to make up the 15 as Tate hit his second home run of the contest in the third.

Evan Truitt (L, 0-3) was given the loss for Charleston Southern after being tagged for 12 earned on 11 hits across three innings. Ryan Daugherty threw two frames and was charged with just the one earned on two hits while Eddie Olsen got the final three outs after being charged with two earned on three hits.

Liam Sullivan (W, 3-0) went the minimum five frames for his third win of the season, limiting CSU to no hits and allowing just three baserunners along the way. Zach DeVito and Luke Wagner both saw an inning as well to close it out, Devito facing the minimum while Wagner gave up a hit and a walk.
