GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team was swept by the Furman Paladins on Saturday, falling in the first game 6-2 and 7-0 in game two.
Game One
After jumping ahead early on, the Bucs (9-11) could not hold their lead, as the Paladins (7-16) scored six runs in their final two innings.
The Bucs jumped ahead in the first inning, as
Harper Schoeneweis reached on an error by the first baseman to score
Ashley Meckley, who singled and stole a base to start the inning.
It was Schoeneweis again in the top of third inning providing the lumber for the Bucs. With two outs, she brought in
Weslin Jones with an RBI double to make it 2-0.
Annah Junge was cruising through the first four innings, until the Paladins took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. A walk, two singles and an RBI two-out double gave Furman a 3-2 lead.
The Paladins added three more in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Junge surrendered a three-run home run.
Junge took the loss, falling to 8-2 on the season. She pitched 6.0 innings, allowing 6 runs on 11 hits with 1 walk and 0 strikeouts. Meckley was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Game Two
The Paladins carried that momentum into game two, where they shut out the Bucs with a 7-0 win. The Bucs managed just one hit in the game.
Riley Lauffer was able to get through 3.0 innings only allowing two runs, but Furman exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Back-to-back RBI singles and a bases-clearing double made it 7-0.
Lauffer took the loss to fall to 1-8 on the season. She pitched all 6.0 innings for the Bucs, allowing 7 runs on 12 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
The Bucs had only three baserunners the entire game and none after the fourth inning.

The Bucs are back at CSU Softball Complex this Tuesday, as they play host to the Ohio State Buckeyes in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Both games can be found on ESPN+.
