Charleston Southern's 2023 outdoor debut featured several strong performances on Friday's Buccaneer Invitational. The Bucs scored the highest point total of the six team field with 171 points.
Sprints/Hurdles
Shawn Langley Jr. won 200m with a wind-aided time of 21.26.
Luciano Custodio also won 400m hurdles with his personal best time of 53.96.
Jumps
Holden Gerth won the high jump at the 2.00m mark.
Jonathan Lorbeer finished fourth in long jump with his personal best mark of 6.63m.
Throws
Michael Calhoun topped the leaderboard in both the shot put and the hammer throw, including his new school record shot put of 17.85m.
Aaron Pierce threw his personal best in all three throwing events. He won the javelin with a CSU top ten mark of 60.41m, took second in the shot put (14.50m), and third in the hammer throw.
Holden Gerth followed up his high jump win by finishing third in the javelin with a personal best mark of 53.24m.
Distance
CSU was well represented in the 1500m as they took the top five spots.
Micah Gilpatric led the team at 3:45.52,
Rob Howorth was second, followed by
Sam Waldin,
Jaden Kingsley,
Alan Deogracias.
Garrett Ricardo finished second in the 800m.
Jordan Smith won the 3K and
Jeff Wedding won the 2K steeplechase with
Griffin Gillespie taking 3rd.
