CHARLESTON, S.C. -
Riley Lauffer was excellent through 5.1 innings, as the Charleston Southern Buccaneers came away with the 2-1 victory over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Tuesday. This was the first win for the Bucs (10-16, 0-3 in conference) against the Chanticleers (24-7, 1-2 in SBC) in the past four matchups.
The bats for the Bucs woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning, as
Ashley Meckley led off the inning with a double. Two batters later,
Raleigh Lewis tied the game at one with an RBI single that hit off the wall in left field. Then,
Gracie Prince gave the Bucs the lead with a first--pitch, RBI double to straight-away left field.
Coastal Carolina got on the board quickly in the first inning with a leadoff home run on the second pitch of the game. That is all that Lauffer surrendered, as she allowed only 1 run on 4 hits in 5.1 innings pitched. She did not factor in the decision.
With two runners on in the sixth inning, Lauffer gave way to
Annah Junge, who ended the inning with a strikeout. The Chants had another chance in the last inning, but Junge struck out her second batter to leave runners at the corners.
Junge pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits. She picked up the win to improve to 9-5 on the season.
