Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Charleston Southern softball capped off the UNF/JU Spring Break Challenge with a doubleheader split on Sunday, salvaging a game against the Jacksonville Suns with a 4-2 win and falling to the Troy Trojans 6-3.
Game 1
The Bucs (8-7) jumped on the board first with three runs in the top of the second inning. They scored all of their runs with two outs.
Charlee Yourman led off the inning with a single.
After a walk to
Cadence Walding,
Weslin Jones reached on a throwing error by the catcher, allowing
Lacy Johnson to score. Then,
Ashley Meckley knocked in two more runs to give the Bucs a 3-0 lead.
Charleston Southern got one more in the top of the third inning.
Madelyne Lee walked and stole second, and
Lacy Johnson knocked in a run with a single to center field.
That is all the Bucs needed, as
Annah Junge only allowed two fourth-inning runs in a complete-game performance. She allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Meckley and Yourman led the Bucs offense in game one. Meckley was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Yourman was 2 for 3.
Game 2
The Trojans got to
Riley Lauffer early, scoring five runs in the first two innings. They led off the second inning with a walk, and four-straight hits gave them their fifth run of the game.
The Bucs (8-8) were able to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning, as Yourman led off the inning with a single. Then, with two outs, the Bucs tied the game with an error by the Trojans. The next batter, Walding, made it 2-1 with an RBI groundout.
Charleston Southern cut the deficit to two in the fifth inning, when
Gracie Prince brought in Walding with an RBI single to make it 5-3. Troy responded though, scoring an insurance run to take the 6-3 win.
Lauffer took the loss for the Bucs to fall to 1-7 on the season. She went 6.0 innings, allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits and walked 6 while striking out 4. The Bucs finished the weekend with a record of 2-3.

Charleston Southern will be back at CSU Softball Complex this Wednesday, as they take on UNC Greensboro in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
