Head Coach Gabe Giardina Announces Full Football Staff

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Football would like to announce that the 2023 football staff has been completed. Gabe Giardina has put together a highly experienced, energetic staff with a lot of ties to the state of South Carolina. More importantly, these men are all great fits for the institution.

On offense, Adam Hollifield will lead the Gold Rush offense in what Coach Giardina calls the "Modern Option Attack." Hollifield was Giardina's Offensive Coordinator at Albany State since 2018. In 2022, the Golden Rams averaged over 30 points a game. Hollifield will also coach the offensive line for the Buccaneers. Hollifield will be recruiting West Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina

Shuler Bentley will oversee the Quarterbacks. Bentley comes from the Jamey Chadwell coaching tree at Coastal Carolina. He was an Analyst in his last season at Coastal and helped tutor Grayson McCall. Coach Bentley has deep ties to the state of South Carolina in recruiting from his playing days at Byrnes High School. Coach Bentley will recruit the Spartanburg area of the Upstate.

Vince Giardina will handle the Wide Receivers coaching duties as well as coordinate the Kickoff Return Unit. Vince comes from Louisiana Christian University, where he was the offensive coordinator. Vince was a part of a tremendous transition moving LCU from Division III to NAIA football. In 2022, his offense at LCU averaged over 31 points game. Coach Giardina will recruit the northwestern half the of the Peedee.

Tyler Bell is from North Greenville University will be coaching Running Backs and coordinating the Punt Return Unit. Bell is a Wake Forrest graduate that led the Demon Deacons in rushing his freshman year.  Bell, over the past two season at NGU, has tutored some tremendous backs at NGU. He will be recruiting the Bamberg, Barnwell, and Allendale areas of South Carolina.

Caleb Muxlow and Dillon Sharp will round out the offensive staff. Muxlow is returning for his second season at Charleston Southern and will handle coaching the Tight Ends while Sharp will serve as the Video Coordinator and the assistant QB's Coach.

Defensively, Nick Reveiz will be coordinating Dirty Blue enterprises other wise known as the Defensive Coordinator. Reveiz coordinated defenses at Albany state for four seasons. In 2021, his Dirty Blue defense was the number one scoring defense in all of Division II, allowing 6.8 points per game and pitched seven defensive shut outs. A year later, Reveiz took his show on the road and was the defensive coordinator at VMI. Reviez will be recruiting the Low Country of South Carolina.

Maurice Duncan will coach the Secondary. Duncan was most recently the Defensive Coordinator at North Greenville University in the upstate. Duncan's defenses routinely ranked in the top of the Gulf South Conference. Duncan is an Aiken native, a Furman graduate, and will recruit Greenville side the upstate.

Mike Welch will coach the Defensive Line for the Buccaneers. Welch was previously with Coach Giardina at Albany State University. Welch's defensive line terrorized the SIAC in 2022, finishing the season ranked 13th in all of Division II. Welch has proven himself to be tireless recruiter and developer of talent on the defensive line.

Former Charleston Southern Buccaneer Zack Johnson will return for his second season in the low country to coach the Inside Linebackers, coordinate recruiting and coach the punt team. Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge about CSU and the current Big South to the staff.  Zack will wear lots of hats but enjoys the challenge of figuring it out on how to be successful.

Rounding out the defense will be Jalen Bush. Bush most recently coached the secondary at Albany State for Coach Giardina in 2022. At Charleston Southern, he will be focusing his duties on the corners and on the Kickoff Coverage Unit.
