Carson Tops List of Track and Field Athletes with All-Conference Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Big South announced their yearly awards on Friday for the outdoor track season, and multiple athletes from the Charleston Southern track and field team were on that list.

This includes Zemaya Carson, who was given Freshman of the Year by the conference, obtaining the highest accumulated total for freshman out of 21 points.

The freshman from Warner Robins, GA had a stellar season for the Bucs. After an impressive showing in the Big South Championships this week, Carson holds the school record in discus with a mark of 48.19m. She finished second in the event.

One of her more impressive showings on the season was in the Big South Indoor Championships back in February, when she was crowned champion during day one, when she posted a school record in shot put at 14.49m.

This is Carson's second time overall this season obtaining an award from the Big South. She was named Big South Freshman of the Week back in March.

Also joining Carson in receiving conference honors are Michael Calhoun and Chloe Greene, who made the All-Academic Team. For both Calhoun and Greene, this is the second time that they have made the list. Both athletes were also All-Conference last year as well.
