PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - The Charleston Southern men's golf team tied for eighth place this week in their first tournament of the 2023-24 season, jumping three spots on the final day. They competed in the
Golfweek Fall Challenge hosted by Winthrop in
Pawley's Island, S.C.
"Not where we wanted to finish this week on the leader board, but I am proud that we had our best round on the final day," says Head Coach Chan
Metts. "There were some tougher final-round pins today, and our score showed that we are better than our first two days."
Layne Lambert led the Bucs in the tournament's final day, finishing with a score of 65. He placed 13
th overall with a total score of 207. He had a 67, 75 and 65 throughout the tournament. Griffin
Tarver had the second best finish for the Bucs, as he jumped 19 spots on the final day and tied for 24
th place overall. He was four under par with a score of 211 over the course of the three days, finishing with a 68 in the final two days.
Jules
Gentil finished with a personal-best 71 on the second day, while finishing with a score of 72 in the other two rounds. Theodor
Takman and
Ben Carroll both finished the tournament with a score of 219.
"We have a high ceiling with this team," said
Metts. "It all just depends on us getting five guys that play well at the same time."
The Bucs will look to build on their strong finish, as they travel to Virginia next week, where they will participate in the VCU Shootout on September 18
th and 19
th.
