Men's Golf Finishes Golfweek Fall Challenge Strong

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - The Charleston Southern men's golf team tied for eighth place this week in their first tournament of the 2023-24 season, jumping three spots on the final day. They competed in the Golfweek Fall Challenge hosted by Winthrop in Pawley's Island, S.C.

"Not where we wanted to finish this week on the leader board, but I am proud that we had our best round on the final day," says Head Coach Chan Metts. "There were some tougher final-round pins today, and our score showed that we are better than our first two days."

Layne Lambert led the Bucs in the tournament's final day, finishing with a score of 65. He placed 13th overall with a total score of 207. He had a 67, 75 and 65 throughout the tournament. Griffin Tarver had the second best finish for the Bucs, as he jumped 19 spots on the final day and tied for 24th place overall. He was four under par with a score of 211 over the course of the three days, finishing with a 68 in the final two days.

Jules Gentil finished with a personal-best 71 on the second day, while finishing with a score of 72 in the other two rounds. Theodor Takman and Ben Carroll both finished the tournament with a score of 219.

"We have a high ceiling with this team," said Metts. "It all just depends on us getting five guys that play well at the same time."

The Bucs will look to build on their strong finish, as they travel to Virginia next week, where they will participate in the VCU Shootout on September 18th and 19th.
