Winthrop Defeats Charleston Southern on Wednesday Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern dropped their midweek action against Winthrop on Wednesday night by a final score of 78-59.
 
The Eagles were able to get up early in the game and took control of it for the rest of the night. They were able to take a twenty-point lead into the break and stretched their lead to as many as 33 on the night. The Bucs fought the rest of the night and were able to outscore the visitors 38-37 in the second half.
 
The Buccaneers had four players finish in double figures with A'lahn Sumler leading the team with 16. Kalib Clinton had 12, RJ Johnson had 11 and Taje' Kelly finished with 10. Johnson played all 40 minutes of the game for the second consecutive outing. Nobal Days had his first start of his career with the Bucs and had a career-high in rebounds with eight.
 
Charleston Southern had the edge in the rebounding battle tonight as they had a 37-33 edge with the Bucs having 16 boards off the offensive glass.
 
The Buccaneers will return to the court on Saturday night to host UNC Asheville in the backend of a men's and women's doubleheader. The weekend's game serves as the Alumni Weekend for the programs presented by Home Telecom.
