CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern football announced their 2024 football schedule on Tuesday afternoon with it featuring five home games and a trip to current ACC Champion Florida State to end the regular season. This schedule is expected to be one of the most difficult in the nation as they will face five teams who either won their conference outright or a share of the title in 2023.
Gabe Giardina's second season at the helm of the Charleston Southern football program begins against their longtime crosstown rival in The Citadel. The matchup is scheduled for August 31 from Buccaneer Field in the programs' first contest since 2019.
The nonconference schedule continues to roll on with the Bucs hitting the road against two of the country's premier FCS programs in Furman (9/7) and Richmond (9/14), each a champion of their conference a year ago. Each of these teams ended the season ranked in the nation's top 25 with Furman at #6 and Richmond slotted in at #22. The Paladins fell in the FCS quarterfinals to eventual national runner-up #2 Montana while the Spiders were bounced in the second round to eventual semifinalist, Albany.
This year's Big South-OVC slate features nine teams with everyone playing each other for an eight-game association schedule. Following a bye week after the Richmond game, CSU will play at Tennessee State (9/28). They return home for a contest against a new OVC member in Western Illinois and follow it with a trip to Lindenwood.
The next two opponents for the Buccaneers they did not face last season and will mark the schools' first time playing each other. They will first welcome Southeast Missouri State on October 19 and then go to Tennessee Tech on October 26.
The start of November marks the team's first and only two-game homestand of the season against last year's co-champions of the inaugural season in Gardner-Webb (11/2) and UT Martin (11/9). Their league schedule finishes with another trip to the Midwest to face Eastern Illinois on November 16.
In the regular season finale, the Bucs will go south for the first time and take on last year's ACC Champions in Florida State (11/23). This will mark the third meeting between these programs as they have also faced off in 2011 and 2016.
Information on season tickets as well as single game ticket packages will be released later in the year. Continue to check csusports.com for the latest information on Charleston Southern athletics.
