CHARLESTON, S.C. – After last week's conference win against Winthrop, the Charleston Southern women's soccer team continues Big South play on Saturday, as they take on the Radford Highlanders at Cupp Memorial Stadium in Radford, Virginia.
The Buccaneers started conference play with a 1-0-0 record after defeating the Winthrop Eagles at home by a 4-1 score last Wednesday. All four goals for the Buccaneers came in the first half. It was the most goals scored on a conference opponent since 2019.
Charleston Southern is second in the conference in scoring average through their first nine matches, averaging 1.9 goals per match. They are led by freshman Danika Birch with 5 goals scored and senior Daniela Contreras with four goals on the season.
In goal for the Buccaneers, Jenna Moran has seven starts and 37 saves putting her at 238 for her career, which is 4 saves away from being fourth all-time in school history. Between her and freshman Avery Mason, the Buccaneers have 43 saves, a .729 save percentage and two shutouts.
The Radford Highlanders come into Saturday's match with a 5-2-3 (0-0-1 in conference) record. They are 3-1-1 at home and are 2-1-2 on the road. Picked to finish first in the Big South in the preseason, the Highlanders are led by Ben Sohrabi, who is in his 28th season at the helm. They tied Gardner-Webb 2-2 in their lone Big South match this season.
