The second quarter was costly for the Buccaneers (1-5), as they were outscored by 10 points and scored just six points. Charleston Southern went the first eight minutes of the quarter without a field goal, as Tyonna Bailey made a turnaround jumper to make it 24-17 and end a 13-2 Mercer (3-3) run.

Charleston Southern started the game strong, as they jumped out to a 12-4 lead capped off by five-straight points from Alben. After that, Mercer went on a 10-3 run to close out the quarter.
After trailing by nine points to begin the second half, Tyonna Bailey and Maya Robinson led the Buccaneers on a run, as they cut their deficit to three points with 3:19 left in the third quarter. From there, Mercer regained the lead and never looked back.
