CHARLESTON, S.C - Wednesday evening, the CSU men's basketball team took the court in Atlanta, Georgia to face off against the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech.
This game would almost feel like a home game for multiple Buccaneers as six member of this year's roster played high school basketball in the Peach State:
A'lahn Sumler (Buford),
Anthony Gause (Milton),
Derrick Harris Jr. (Mitchell County),
DJ Patrick (Sprayberry),
Lamar Oden Jr. (Greenforest-McCalep), and
Taje' Kelly (Grayson).
Georgia-native,
Derrick Harris Jr. got to make his debut into the Bucs' starting lineup in place of the injured
RJ Johnson. After the lineups were announced and the jump ball went up. The first half was dominated by the Yellow Jackets as they converted over 55 percent of their field goals in the ball game's first twenty minutes.
Taje' Kelly, who has traditionally played well against high-major opponents this season, held his own against the Yellow Jackets. Kelly finished the ball game as the Bucs' leading scorer with 20 points and 5 rebounds.
The second-half was not great for CSU. They did improve from half number one in the three-point (5/11) and free-throw (12/16) shooting departments, but Georgia Tech played to their strengths and simply made shots. Tech had four players finished with double-figures in the scoring column and would convert nearly 53% of their field-goal attempts.
The Yellow Jackets would eventually win the contest by a score of 91-67, but there were some silver linings from McCamish Pavilion on Thanksgiving Eve.
Thompson Camara, who made his starting line-up debut at LSU just a week prior, would record a division one career-high 14 points. In only 26 minutes of play, Camara would score 14 points, shooting 5/10 from the field and 4/7 from three.
CSU will continue their non-conference schedule Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2 PM when they face another ACC opponent, the Miami Hurricanes.
