COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team finished up the non-conference season on Thursday afternoon, as they battled the No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks inside Colonial Life Arena, falling by an 82-46 score.
After a strong first half performance, where the Buccaneers (4-9) led after the first quarter, the Gamecocks were able to catch fire in the second half, outscoring Charleston Southern 48-20 in the second half.
Catherine Alben was Buccaneers' leading scorer, finishing with 14 points.
Saniya Jones was the leading rebounder with six.Â
Tyonna Bailey pulled down an offensive rebound and scored with 2:49 to go in the first quarter, giving the Bucs their first lead of a game. That was part of a 9-2 run for Charleston Southern, who closed the opening frame with a 15-11 lead.
The Gamecocks took a double-digit lead with one minute left in the first half, but Alben cut the deficit to single digits with a three pointer with under a minute to go to make it an eight-point halftime lead for the Gamecocks.Â
Charleston Southern kept it close to begin the second half, but the Gamecocks finished the third quarter on a 20-2 run and took an 18-point lead heading into the final frame.Â

The Buccaneers will have a two-week break between games, as they open 2025 and Big South play on Jan. 2 when they travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb.Â
