COLUMBIA, S.C. – Men's Track and Field completed their regular season on Saturday at the USC Open hosted by the University of South Carolina. The Buccaneers' top performances of the day came in the 200m dash as well as the shot put to go along with multiple top finishes.
In the 200m, Shawn Langley Jr ran a personal best with a time of 21.22 to finish second overall in the event. Additionally, this mark moved him up to second all-time in program history.
Carl Murray IV had a tremendous outing in the event with a time of 21.55 for a career best and 6
th in CSU history.
The Buccaneers' 4x400 meter relay squad won the event at the meet with their time of 3:15.89 to rank themselves as the 4
th fastest in program history. The group consisted of
Charlie Easler,
Luciano Custodio, Murray and Langley for one of the top marks of all-time for Charleston Southern.
Holden Gerth had a great outing in the high jump as he had a season-best in it to win. Gerth cleared 2.04m (6' 8.25") to claim the victory.
Charleston Southern placed three student-athletes in the top seven in the shot put.
Michael Calhoun led the way with a heave of 17.28m (56' 8.5") to place second overall.
Odin Ferency set a personal best in it and moved up to 9
th all-time in the record books for the event with a throw of 14.54m (47' 8.5") to finish in 6
th.
Aaron Pierce was close behind in 7
th overall.
The Buccaneers will now look to regroup and continue preparations for the Big South Championships that will be held next week. The meet will take place in Blacksburg, Virginia on the campus of Virginia Tech with action to begin on Friday, February 23 through Saturday, February 24.
