NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team opened the 2024 season with an 11-1 defeat to the East Carolina Pirates on Thursday night.
 
The Bucs (0-1) tied the game in the bottom of the first inning, as Charlee Yourman knocked in Charleston Southern's only run in the game with a two-out RBI single. The Bucs tried to add on in the first inning, but a runner was thrown out trying to score from second base on a Gracie Prince single.
 
East Carolina (1-0) added on six runs in the fifth inning, chasing Annah Junge out of the game. Junge went 4.0 innings allowing five runs (four earned)  on nine hits, one walk and two strikeouts. She gave way to Nealy Lamb, who gave up four runs on four hits in 2.0 innings pitched. Riley Lauffer threw the final inning, allowing two runs on two hits. The Bucs strung across four hits in the game and had two errors.

The Bucs have a quick turnaround, as they host the CSU Kickoff Tournament this weekend. They will play on Friday at 3 PM and 5:30 PM.
