CHARLESTON – The Buccaneers fell to Northern Kentucky by a final score of 1-0.
In the early innings, both teams were able to get runners on, but were unable to bring any of them around to score in just about every inning.
The Norse were able to break the scoreless game in the top of the fourth as they brought Megan Kincer in to pinch hit. She turned on the first pitch she saw and sent it to the right field gap for a double to bring pinch runner Charly Koehler home and put themselves ahead at 1-0.
Nealy Lamb got the start for the team and finished the day with 4.0 innings, two hits, four walks and six strikeouts. Charleston turned to
Annah Junge in the fifth inning on the mound, retiring the side in order in each of her three innings of work. She recorded three strikeouts as well.
Harper Schoeneweis led the team with a pair of hits.
Weslin Jones and
Carsten Sandvig each added one as well while Maddie Lee was able to draw a walk. In total, the team swiped five bases with Schoeneweis again the team-high of two. Each of them, Jones, Sandvig and Lee each had a stolen base as well.
The Buccaneers will be back in action tomorrow as they will face off with Northn Kentucky for game #2 of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
