Women's Golf Takes Home First Place in Pinetree Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, GA - For the first time in the Chan Metts era, the Charleston Southern women's golf team took home the first-place trophy this week, as they were the winners of the Pinetree Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State University.

Odette Font was the overall individual champion, finishing with the best overall score in the tournament at 146 (+2). She shot a personal-best 71 in round one while finishing with a 75 in round two. Charleston Southern had two golfers finish in the top five, as Katie Stephens finished in a four-way tie for fifth place with an overall score of 150.

Behind Stephens was Elsie Verhoeven, who finished tied for 10th in the tournament with a 152 shooting a 76 in both rounds. Caroline Engelbredt shot a 78 and a 77, finishing with a 155, and rounding it out for the Bucs was Eugenie Varet, who shot a 165 overall for the tournament.

"There is no substitute for the feeling of winning in our sport," said Metts. "I am proud of the girls for coming out swinging from the first tee shot. We will enjoy this one, but we have higher goals and more work to do."

This is Charleston Southern's first regular-season tournament win since being victorious in two of their first three tournaments to start the 2022 fall season. They won the Edisto Island Invitational and the Buccaneer Classic in Oct. of 2022. The Bucs have one more tournament before the Big South Championships, as they head to Greenville, N.C. on April 1 and 2 to compete in the Ironwood Invitational hosted by East Carolina at the Ironwood Country Club.
