GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team increased their winning streak to four games on Thursday, as they went 2-0 in day one of the UNCG Invitational. They beat Merrimack 2-0 in the first game and won 6-1 in the second game against UMBC.Â
Game One
Nealy Lamb pitched her first career complete-game shutout, going 7.0 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out a career-high nine batters. She picked up her team-leading fourth win of the season.Â
All Lamb needed was a couple of runs of support, which the Bucs (9-10) did in the bottom of the second and fifth innings. Charleston Southern made it 1-0 when
Gracie Prince brought in
Charlee Yourman on an RBI single. In the fifth inning,
Jordyn Dimond scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded to make it 2-0.Â
Game Two
The Bucs got the bats going early, as they scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the first inning, as the Bucs (10-10) sent nine to the plate. Yourman brought in
Madelyne Lee and
Weslin Jones on an RBI single and advanced to second on the throw.Â
After
Linley Jones reached on an error,
Gracie Prince hit her first home run of the season over the left field fence to make it 6-0. It was the second home run that Charleston Southern hit all season.
That was all that
Annah Junge needed in support, as she allowed just one run in the top of the fifth inning on six hits, one walk and eight strikeouts, which ties the record for career strikeouts with 439. She needs just one more to break the school record.Â
