Men's Basketball Announces Addition of Transfer Forward Jaylon Gibson

CHARLESTON – The Buccaneers' Men's Basketball program announced the signing of transfer forward Jaylon Gibson (Zebulon, N.C. / UNC Greensboro) on Tuesday morning. Gibson arrives at CSU as a graduate transfer with four years of collegiate basketball experience and a big frame at 6'10".

"I am very excited to add Jaylon to our basketball family," said Head Coach Saah Nimley. "His combination of size, athleticism, skill and defensive instinct was exactly what we were looking for. Jaylon is also a young man of very strong character and belief. This is not just a great addition to our basketball family, but to our university."

Gibson began his college career at North Carolina State spending the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 season with the Wolfpack. During his time in Raleigh, he played in 46 games while making four starts. In just an average of 10.7 minutes a game, he put up 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds. Additionally, he was a constant presence on the defensive end of the court with 15 blocks and nine steals in his time there.

After that, he spent a year at Winston-Salem State averaging over 12 points and six rebounds a game. During conference play, he bumped his numbers up to 13-and-a-half points and six-and-a-half rebounds with these numbers ranking 8th and 9th in the CIAA. At the end of the year, he was named to the All-CIAA Frontcourt Team and All-CIAA Tournament Team. This past fall he was at UNC Greensboro under the tutelage of Head Coach Mike Jones.

In high school, Gibson was one of the top ranked players in the state of North Carolina, being a three-star recruit on 247sports.com. He was listed as the #14 best recruit in the state and #62 power forward in the country coming out of high school. He played at Grace Christian School for his junior and senior seasons and was at Apex High School his sophomore season. He helped lead Grace Christian to a 21-12 record in his senior year and a 3A NCISAA state second round appearance to go with season averages of 16 points and 11 rebounds. During his junior year, he had 15 points, eight rebounds and nearly three blocks per outing.

Gibson will be looked upon quickly with his addition to the team to help fill the holes of fellow forwards Reginald Duhart Jr. and Nobal Days as they each exhausted their eligibility this past season.
