GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Charleston Southern women's golf team opened the month of April in Greenville, N.C., as they competed in the Ironwood Invitational hosted by East Carolina on Monday and Tuesday. They finished in 12
th place out of 15 teams.
East Carolina was the overall champion of the tournament finishing +21 with a score of 885. They were followed by Delaware and James Madison. The Bucs went into the final round with an overall score of 606, but their score of 315 in round three was tied for the second lowest finish in the final round.
Katie Stephens was the lone Buccaneer to finish in the top 10 individually, as she tied for 9
th place with a score of 223 (+7). She had a team-best score of 72 in round one, followed by a 73 in round two and a 78 in round three.
Caroline Engelbredt was the second best finish for the Buccaneers with a +9 overall, shooting a 225. She tied for 13
th place in the tournament. Stephens and Engelbredt were the only two players for Charleston Southern to finish in the top 50.
Elsie Verhoeven was +19 with a score of 235 but finished tied for the best score in round three for Charleston Southern, shooting a 76.
Odette Font was +23 with a final score of 239 for the tournament, and
Eugenie Varet scored a score of 250 over the three rounds.
This was the final tournament of the 2023-24 regular season for the Buccaneers. The postseason begins on April 14-17 with the Big South Championships in Fripp Island, S.C.
The seedings for the Big South Tournament will be announced on Wednesday, April 10.
