CHARLESTON – The College of Charleston evened the season series with Charleston Southern on Tuesday evening by a final score of 12-2. The game was called after eight innings.
"Tonight, we got what we deserved," said Head Coach
Marc MacMillan following the result. "We allowed too many freebies and did not make plays in the field that would have either got us off the field or minimized an inning. Those additional opportunities provide CofC - or any opponent for that matter - with more at bats and chances to score runs. It was good, however, to see Matty back on the bump. I thought he looked composed and threw well. I also appreciated the effort Pringle gave us behind the plate, especially on the play at the plate where he stuck his face in there and dove to tag the runner out."
Each team got on the board in the first inning with the Cougars tallying a pair. The Buccaneers got on the board with a
Chandler Tuupo single to left field to score
Cade Conway. After the frame, College of Charleston led 2-1.
In the third, a three-run home run extended their lead, and they added an extra two in the fourth inning to move their lead to 7-1. A run was taken off the board in the 4
th following a review where they determined that
Lucas Pringle did get a tag on the runner at the plate.
On the first pitch of the 6
th inning,
Evann Long sent his first home run of the season over the left field wall to get the Bucs another run. This brought the score to 8-2. In the 8th, CofC scored four runs to reach the run rule count and end the game as CSU was unable to cut down their deficit in the bottom half of the inning to extend the game.
In total, the Buccaneers had six hits on the day. This included Long, Tuupo,
Gavin Bogdanchik,
BJ Banyon,
Brock Kuehler and
Aidan McAskie. The team's RBIs were courtesy of Long and Tuupo.
Matt Gallant had the start for Charleston Southern in his first outing in nearly a month. He threw the first inning of the game, giving up no earned runs.
Ryan Daugherty and
Chandler Woolridge each threw 1.1 innings.
Christian Robb had the next 2.1 while
Tyler Henshaw had the final two innings.
