Pierce and Gillespie Shine in CSU Last Chance Meet

CHARLESTON – The Buccaneers 2024 outdoor regular season came to an end on Sunday at the CSU Last Chance meet. Multiple student-athletes set new personal bests during it as they looked to move up the national leaderboards to claim their spots in the NCAA Regionals.

Aaron Pierce highlighted the showings from the men with his outing in the men's javelin. He threw a personal best in the event with a heave of 64.31m (211') which moves him up to 5th officially on the school record books and continues to hold the best throw at CSU since the 1980s.

Charleston Southern also had competitors in the 800m and the 1500m at the meet. In the 1500m, Griffin Gillespie ran a personal best with his time of 3:49.20 to take second in the field. The time moves him up from 10th to 6th all-time in school history. Jordan Smith also competed in the event and recorded a time of 3:58.76 for a career-best in his last outing with the Buccaneers.

Jeff Wedding and Tim Depue raced in the 800m with Wedding taking the race with his time of 1:57.97 with Depue behind at 2:02.59.

The Buccaneers will find out their postseason fates this week with many on the bubble for a spot in the NCAA Regionals. This year's East Regionals are going to be held in Lexington, Kentucky at the University of Kentucky from Wednesday, May 22 through Saturday, May 25.
