CHARLESTON, S.C. - Katie Stephens was named Big South Women's Golfer of the Week for back-to-back weeks on Thursday afternoon following her outstanding performance at the Elon Invitational to help lead the team to an individual championship. She finished the event as the individual runner-up which ties her best collegiate finish which she set at the opening tournament of the season.
 
Stephens opened the tournament with an impressive round of 70 (-1), tying for her third-lowest round at the time. This strong start placed her in a tie for second in the leaderboard early on. In the second round, Stephens fired a 72 (+1) to be in solo second heading into the final round. The final round ended up being a wash out with all players either done or nearly done with their rounds. At the time, Stephens was -4 in the round and had erased the four-stroke deficit she entered the day with to be in a tie for the lead.
 
Her overall performance continues to showcase that she is going to be one of the top golfers in the Big South this season. At the event there were six other conference institutions at the event with her finishing above all of them.
 
This marks the second award of the season for any of the Buccaneer golfers. The team will be looking to continue their success from a season ago as they won a pair of team titles which included a Big South Championship and berth in the NCAA Regionals. They return to action next month for The Southern which is hosted by Georgia Southern and will be held from Monday, October 14 through Tuesday, October 15.
