CHARLESTON, S.C. – After an eight-match non-conference slate, the Charleston Southern women's soccer team begins Big South play on Wednesday, as they host the Winthrop Eagles at CSU Soccer Field.
The Buccaneers finished non-conference play with a 3-3-2 record after defeating the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at home by a 2-1 score last Saturday.
Charleston Southern is third in the conference in scoring average through their first eight matches, averaging just over 1.6 goals per match. They are led by freshman
Danika Birch and senior
Daniela Contreras, who both have four on the season.
In goal for the Buccaneers,
Jenna Moran has six starts and 31 saves putting her at 232 for her career, which is 10 saves away from being fourth all-time in school history. Between her and freshman
Avery Mason, the Buccaneers have 37 saves, a .712 save percentage and two shutouts.
The Winthrop Eagles come into Wednesday's match with a 3-4 record. They are 2-0 at home but are 1-4 away from Rock Hill. Picked to finish eighth in the Big South in the preseason, the Eagles are led by Spencer Smith, who is in his 15
th season at the helm.
