McCartney Claims Big South Runner of the Week Honor

CHARLESTON – The Big South announced the winners of their first batch of the weekly awards for women's cross country on Wednesday afternoon with Sarah McCartney winning runner of the week. This is the second time in her cross country career that she has received the award.

McCartney won the CSU Buccaneer Invitational 5K last Friday with a time of 18:04.3 to help the team to a team championship at the race. McCartney crossed the line 13 seconds ahead of the second place finisher at the race. The field consisted of over 65 runners.

This award is the first of many that are expected for the Buccaneers this fall with the team continuing to build towards November's Big South Championship. The women are looking to claim their first team conference championship in program history at the race.

The women are going to be back in action next weekend at the Furman Invitational. The race will be held on the campus of the university on Saturday, September 14 with the races to go off at 9:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
