Yates' Double-Digit Kills Not Enough to Push Bucs Past High Point

CHARLESTON – Friday evening, Charleston Southern hit the road for the third straight weekend. The first leg of the trip began in High Point, North Carolina against the HPU Panthers. CSU would lose the match in three sets (22-25, 11-25, 22-25).

A 6-0 run, capped by a service ace from the reigning Big South Player of the Week Élodie Lalonde, near the beginning of set one would give the Panthers a 8-4 lead. Despite the Bucs shrinking the deficit to two points on several occasions, HPU would never lose their lead, winning set one 25-22.

Set number two was less competitive as High Point opened the set up 8-1. Following the rough opening, CSU would score the next three points. The Panthers' response was an 8-0 run, growing the home team's lead to 16-4. CSU would drop set two 11-25, their worst set loss of the season.

Set number three was an ideal response from CSU. The third set was certainly the most competitive as the two squads traded points from start to finish. The Buccaneer offensive trio of Faith Burch (whose birthday was also on Friday), Emersyn Reiter, and Skylar Yates would all record 4 kills a piece in the match's third and final frame. A kill by Yates would score CSU its 22nd point of the period, but one point later would give HPU the 25-22 set victory.

Notables:

  • Oliwia Durka was CSU's sole leader in blocks Friday evening with 3 total.

  • Skylar Yates was the only Buccaneer to record double-digit kills (10). It was her 10th double-digit kill performance of the 2025 season and 52nd of her career.

Up Next:

CSU's next contest will be played at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 11th in Radford, Virginia as the Bucs take on the Highlanders in the Dedmon Center. The match will not be streamed.
