CHARLESTON – Friday evening, the 3rd-seeded Charleston Southern volleyball team suited up for the first round of the Big South Championship tournament in High Point, North Carolina. The Bucs opponent in the opening round would be the 6th-seed, Radford Highlanders.
Despite being up 20-18, Charleston Southern would give up seven of the final eight points in the match's first frame – dropping the set to Radford 25-21.
At the media time-out, half-way point of set number two, Radford would lead the way 15-12. After three consecutive kills by the Highlanders' true-freshman, Olivia Ryno, CSU' Head Coach Carry Brown would call a time-out down 18-13. Trading points throughout the next minutes would not be enough to close the deficit for the Bucs. With another set loss on the horizon, Radford would seal the second-set deal – scoring five-consecutive times to win the frame 25-16.
Although Coach Brown's VolleyBucs went down 6-2 to begin set three, the fight would not vanish. A 5-0 CSU run, including a service ace by Presley Morris would bring the Blue and Gold within two (12-10). The Highlander's response to the Bucs' run would be them scoring seven of the following nine points to grow their lead to 19-12. Showing flashes of energy, CSU would bring the score back within 21-17, a service error by Cara McLean would present a momentum shift and the #6 Highlanders would finalize the upset, 25-18.
