BOSTON, MASS. – Men's Track and Field sent a pair of their top distance runners to Boston this weekend for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Micah Gilpatric and Jaden Kinglsey turned in some of their best performances as Buccaneers at the race to make waves on the school and conference record books.
"Today featured a pair of terrific races, both guys are continuing to make their marks on our program deep in their careers," shared Jim Stintzi Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. "Their times from today speak to the body of work and keep cementing their places as some of the best runners Charleston Southern has ever seen!"
Micha Gilpatric claimed 60
th overall in the field while
Jaden Kingsley was 66
th of over 200 runners from the professional and collegiate ranks. Gilpatric had a career best time of 13:50.29 which was run in the fourth heat to become the first-ever CSU runner to go under-14 minutes in the indoor version of the event and slashes over a full minute from his personal best. The mark will rank 7
th in Big South history, becoming the fastest ran by a league member in nearly three years. Kingsley also turned in another tremendous outing with him having a time of 13:52.71 in the fifth heat, becoming the second-ever CSU runner to go under-14 minutes. The time is nearly 20 second faster than his previous personal best ran last year in Boston and places him at 8
th in league history for the event.
Also, in the event was 2024 Summer Olympic Bronze Medalist Grant Fisher. Fisher recorded an indoor world record time of 12:44.09 to win the 5K by more than 10 seconds.
This becomes the third school record broken by the men this winter joining the Distance Medley Relay squad and
Michael Calhoun's mark in the shot put.
Tomorrow, a pair of female student-athletes will lace up for their round at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston while the rest of the squad will finish their time at Liberty's Darius Dixon Meet.
