Buccaneers Shut Down Jaspers to Claim 15-2 Win on Friday Afternoon

CHARLESTON – The Buccaneers continued their hot start to the Karl Kuhn era on Friday afternoon, defeating Manhattan by a 15-2 final score with the game ending in seven innings due to the run rule. The victory moves the team to 4-1 on the year. Pringle led the team in hitting as he went 4-4 while Timpanelli picked up his second win of the year, tossing 5.0 tremendous innings of baseball.

The Charleston Southern offense got off to an incredibly hot start, scoring 11 runs between the first two innings. The Bucs tallied six in the first and then five in the second. Anthony Sanguedolce and Kaden Smith each drew walks to begin the game with a Chandler Tuupo single through the right side scoring the first to open the floodgates. Aidan McAskie's double brought Smith home and Nathan Martinez' single to right scored another pair. Lucas Pringle and Smith had the final RBIs of the inning. In the second, the Jaspers hit a solo home run to get their first run of the day.

In the second, AJ Martin led it off with a triple and was quickly brought home on a McAskie double. Also in the frame, Lew Rice and Smith each picked up RBIs to bump the score to 11-1. The Jaspers were able to answer in the top of the third with another run, proving to be their final across the plate of the day.

The Buccaneers went on to have doubles by Pringle and Edgmon score a run in the bottom of the third. In the 5th, a Pringle single up the middle scored another with Gavin Bogdanchik hammering a ball over the left field fence which meant his first hit of the season was a home run. His solo home run pushed the score to 15-2, proving to be what was the final score for the day.

Nick Timpanelli earned the start for the Bucs and tossed a gem of an afternoon. He had five innings of work, allowing one earned run off two hits and three walks. He struck out eight batters which is the second-most in his time with Charleston Southern. Hayden Henry threw the final two frames, shutting out the Jaspers and allowing just a hit and walk. The victory pushes Timpanelli to a record of 2-0 on the season. In total, the duo allowed just three hits and four walks across the seven innings.

Pringle led the team in hitting with a perfect 4-4 day at the plate and batting in four runs, also a team-high. McAskie and Martinez were right behind him with three hits in the afternoon with Tuupo and Martin adding a pair each. Sanguedolce, Smith, Bogdanchik and Edgmon all had one. Pringle, McAskie and Martinez all scored three times as well while McAskie, Martinez and Smith had two RBIs apiece.
