Bucs Fall to Georgetown and Siena in Day Two of CSU Kickoff Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team competed in day two of the CSU Kickoff Tournament on Saturday, dropping a contest to both Georgetown and Siena.
 
Game One
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, the Buccaneers (0-4) allowed six runs to come across the plate after a two-out error with runners on base led to a double and a grand slam from the Hoyas (3-1).
 
The Buccaneers answered with two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, as Weslin Jones plated two runs with a double down the right field line. After the Hoyas made it 7-6 in the fourth inning, Carsten Sandvig hit the Buccaneers' first home run of the season to make it 7-7.
 
The Hoyas scored eight runs in the final two innings, as the Buccaneers made five errors in the contest. Brenna Conley made her first collegiate start, allowing six runs (0 ER) with three walks, three strikeouts and three hits. Mackenzie Rutkoff suffered the loss, allowing six runs (4 ER) on eight hits in 1.2 IP. She is now 0-2 on the season.
 
Weslin Jones, Blakely Kingsmore and Carsten Sandvig led the Buccaneer offensively, each going 2 for 4 in the game. Jones knocked in four runs, while Kingsmore scored once and Sandvig scored twice while knocking in two runs of her own.
 
Game Two
Once again, the Buccaneers attacked early offensively, taking a 3-1 lead into the second inning. After two quick outs, Sandvig walked and advanced to second on a Gracie Prince single. Then, Emma Villaescusa doubled down the right field line, and Linley Jones knocked in two with a double of her own. She was thrown out at third trying to stretch the double into a triple.
 
Kinsey Clopton started for the Buccaneers and ran into some trouble in the top of the third inning, as the Buccaneer pitching staff allowed 10 runs in the top of the third inning. Clopton went 2.1 innings, allowing five runs (3 ER) on five hits and three walks. Conley came in for relief and allowed six runs (0 ER) on five hits in 0.1 IP.
 
On Deck
The Buccaneers will wrap up their first weekend of the season on Sunday afternoon, as they have a rematch with Bellarmine at 12:30 PM. Live stats will be available on csusports.com.
