CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern defeated VCU by a 4-3 final score on Wednesday morning with the match coming down to the final match to determine its victor.
Brenda Yoris clinched the victory behind a three-set win on court #5.
The Bucs were able to get the first point of the match behind a strong performance in doubles.
Emmie Moore and
Brenda Yoris won on court #3 by a score of 6-3 while
Noa Boyd and
Amila Jusufbegovic concluded the doubles action with their 6-4 result in the topflight to secure the point. The match on court #2 went unfinished with the VCU duo leading 5-4.
In singles,
Marina Skegro got Charleston Southern out to a bigger lead with a 6-1,7-5 decision on the #2 court. The Rams responded back by claiming the topflight match by straight sets. The teams then traded straight set results as well on the #4 and #6 courts. VCU claimed the #6 while Jusufbegovic won the #4 by a 6-1, 7-6 scoreline. The Buccaneers dropped the #3 court, bringing the match even at three apiece.
With one match left to be completed, the result came down to the decision on the #5 court. After dropping the first set 6-4, Yoris answered back claiming the next two by significant 6-2, 6-2 scorelines, clinching the match for CSU.
Charleston Southern will continue the week of three consecutive days of matches on Thursday at noon. They will face Samford in that match before concluding the week's schedule against Belmont at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
