CHARLESTON – Bellarmine picked up their first win of the 2025 season, defeating Charleston Southern 10-5 to snap the Bucs six-game winning streak.
Bellarmine got ahead early having a six run first inning, just like Charleston Southern had done against them yesterday. They had their first five batters of the day reach safely. Eli Watson drove home the first two runs of the day off a single.
In the bottom half of the inning,
Anthony Sanguedolce led it off with a single to center field and stole second.
AJ Martin drove him in off a single through the left side. In the second, the Bucs were able to chip into the deficit more. With two outs,
Mason Reising had a single to left and
Blake Edgmon followed it with a single to left as well. Sangeudolce drove both home with a double off the wall in right center putting them behind 6-3.
The Knights extended their lead in the top of the third, scratching three across. They got their 10
th off a wild pitch with a runner on third during the 6
th.
The teams traded 0s for the middle of the ball game. The Bucs were able to score a pair in the bottom of the 8
th to make it closer.
Blake Edgmon had a double down the right field line that scored Collins and Martinez. They loaded the bases and had Cooper Hellman come in to face
Chandler Tuupo, striking him out in four pitches.
Sanguedolce, Collins and Edgmon led the team with two hits. Sanguedolce and Edgmon each had two RBIs while Martin had one.
Parks Ledwell had the start throwing 1.1 innings.
Ryan DuSang threw the next 3.2 frames, allowing three runs.
Christian Krause was tasked with the next 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit and an earned run.
Ryan Cole threw the final 1.2 and retired all five batters faced.
Charleston Southern has their next game on Tuesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. in Statesboro, Georgia. They will go up against Georgia Southern in a game that was rescheduled from last Wednesday. This will kick off a stretch of eight consecutive contests on the road for the Buccaneers.
