CHARLESTON – The Buccaneers won their conference opener on Sunday afternoon, defeating Gardner-Webb by a 6-1 final score. The victory moves the Bucs to 11-4 on the year and 10-1 at home following the Big South victory.
 
The doubles point went to the Bucs with them getting the decisions on courts #1 and #2. Kassandra Di Staulo and Marina Skegro won 6-2 on the #2 court after the Runnin' Bulldogs won the #3 court. Charleston Southern won the topflight by a final score of 7-6 (2) with Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic on that court.
 
In singles, Charleston Southern was able to clinch the victory quickly with three quick straight set results. Boyd won 6-3, 6-2 on court #3 for the Bucs' second team point. This was followed by Emmie Moore winning 6-2, 6-2 in the topflight. Jusufbegovic won 6-1, 6-3 on court #4 to clinch the team's victory.
In the other matches, Gardner-Webb won the #2 match in a third set tiebreak. The Buccaneers' Brenda Yoris won on #5 with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 result and Di Staulo won 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to end the day's action.
 
Charleston Southern will now take a week off from matches until their next match. For that contest they will face Longwood in Farmville, Virginia on Sunday, March 30 at 9 a.m. and will then travel across the state to take on Radford at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 31.
