Bucs Fall at UNC Wilmington in Close Battle on Tuesday Evening

WILMINGTON – Charleston Southern fell at UNC Wilmington on Tuesday evening in a midweek contest by a final score of 5-3.
 
The Seahawks were the first to get on the board, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. They got their first run scored off a bases loaded walk and then scored the next off a passed ball.
 
Kain Collins got the Buccaneers first run of the day on the board in the top of the third. He laid down a bunt to the pitcher for a single that allowed Gavin Bogdanchik to score from third. This cut their deficit down to 2-1 with plenty of ballgame remaining.
 
UNC Wilmington went on to pad their lead in the third and fourth innings off an RBI single and RBI double. This pushed their advantage to 4-1.
 
Charleston Southern's Kaden Smith smashed a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, bringing the Bucs back within a single run. The Seahawks were able to quickly answer again, tallying one off a sacrifice bunt in the bottom half of the frame.
 
As a team, the Buccaneers finished with five hits. Collins, Smith, Bogdanchik, AJ Martin and Aidan McAskie each had one. They were also able to draw three hit by pitches.
 
On the mound, they used six different arms to get through the evening. Brett Gastman had the start and threw the first inning. Parks Ledwell was in after him for the next 2.0. Hayden Henry, Ryan DuSang and Kyle Lewis each did not allow a run during their time on the mound with Henry going for 2.0.
 
Charleston Southern will now turn their attention to their third conference weekend which will begin on Friday evening. They will be hosting Winthrop for three games with the series opener to have its first pitch at 6 p.m.
