CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern picked up a 4-1 victory over Miami (OH) on Friday afternoon, moving the Buccaneers to 6-4 on the season. The squad's singles team dominated the Redhawks, paving the way for the victory.
The Redhawks were able to claim the doubles point to begin the day.
Emmie Moore and
Brenda Yoris sprinted out to a 6-1 victory on the #3 court to claim the first result of the day. However, Miami answered with a 6-3 at court #2 and 6-4 at court #1 for the first point.
Following this, it was all Charleston Southern as they were able to regroup and claim the claim all four singles matches to be completed.
Noa Boyd was the lone player to claim their victory by straight sets with it being 6-3, 7-5 from the #3 position. After this, Carlé Botha overcame a 0-6 loss in the first set to win the #6 court dominating the final two sets, 0-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The day came to an end as within seconds of each other,
Marina Skegro and
Brenda Yoris clinched their matches, to end the day. Skegro claimed court #2 by scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, also overcoming a first set loss. Yoris' win came on the #5 court at 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the team's sixth win of the year.
Emmie Moore's at #1 and
Amila Jusufbegovic at #4 each went unfinished as they played to clinch. Moore dropped the first set, but was leading 4-6, 6-1, 4-3 when it was called. Jusufbegovic also lost the first one but answered to take the second and lead in the third at 3-6, 7-5, 1-0.
Charleston Southern will be right back in action tomorrow morning as they will take on Kennesaw State. These matches are part of a stretch that features six contests within an eight-day stretch that began against Miami.
