FRIPP ISLAND – Charleston Southern kept their lead from start to finish in stroke play of the Big South Championships, earning the top seed for Wednesday's rounds of match play. The Bucs finished with a team score of -9, being the lone squad to finish under par on the week.
The Buccaneers had team scores of 277, 279, 287 for their total of 843. They beat out High Point and USC Upstate who tied for second overall with an even score on the week. Presbyterian rounded out the top four to advance to match play with a team score of +2.
Layne Lambert was the top finisher for the squad with her score of -6 to be the individual runner-up. His best round came on the second day with a three-under par round of 68.
Griffin Tarver was tied for fifth overall in the field with his -3 and had her best score in the first round with a 68. Each of them earned a spot on the All-Championship team for their placement in the top five at the field at the event.
Alex North also had a tremendous week as he claimed a tie for +2. North had his best round of 70 in the second round.
Theodor Takman and
Dewi John rounded out the team's five at the tournament with their score of +5. Takman opened the week with a 67 while John had his best round in the second with a 69.
Presbyterian's Jeep Patrick was the individual champion with a total score of -10, earning the league's automatic bid as an individual to the NCAA Regionals.
Charleston Southern will tee off in the Semifinals of match play at 8 a.m. against #4 Presbyterian with them teeing off on the first hole. In the other semifinal, it will be #2 High Point facing #3 USC Upstate beginning at 8:05 a.m. from hole 10. The finals will feature the winners of each semifinal beginning approximately at 1:30 p.m. from hole one with the victor earning the Big South's automatic team bid to the NCAA Regionals.
