Bucs Get over .500 in Conference Play with Doubleheader Sweep of Runnin' Bulldogs

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team took care of business on Saturday afternoon, as they defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb twice at the CSU Softball Field.

Game One
Riley Lauffer was outstanding in her 5.0 innings of work, as she allowed three hits and did not walk a batter in the Buccaneers (20-26, 9-8 in conference) 8-0, mercy-ruling victory. Charleston Southern got things going quickly with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and nine batters sent to the plate.

Harper Schoeneweis broke the 0-0 tie with an RBI double to score Blakely Kingsmore followed by RBI singles from Carsten Sandvig, Jordyn Dimond and Emma Villaescusa

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Buccaneers took advantage of three Runnin' Bulldogs (21-29, 4-13 in conference) errors. Kingsmore and Schoeneweis each had RBI singles in an inning that was halted with the bases loaded and two outs due to a weather delay of over an hour.

Game Two

A five-run first inning was all that the Buccaneers needed, as Kinsey Clopton and Brenna Conley allowed two runs on 10 hits between the two of them to secure the doubleheader sweep.

After the Runnin' Bulldogs retired the first two batters of the inning, Sandvig came to the plate with a runner on base and hit a two-run home run to the opposite field. It was her fifth home run of the season. Once again, the Buccaneers sent nine batters to the plate, as Charlee Yourman and Gracie Prince hit back-to-back doubles, and Dimond and Villaescusa hit back-to-back singles to make it 5-0.

The Runnin' Bulldogs had 10 hits on the evening but stranded 12 baserunners. Clopton improves to 9-8 with the win, and Brenna Conley picks up her second save of the season.

On Deck

The Buccaneers will conclude the 2025 regular season tomorrow, as they look for the three-game sweep of the Runnin' Bulldogs. First pitch is at 1:05 PM and will be streamed on ESPN+. Following the game, Charleston Southern will recognize their four seniors.
