CHARLESTON – The Big South announced the winners of their weekly awards for Men's Cross Country on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of Buccaneers sweeping the honors for the first time this fall.
Griffin Gillespie earned Runner of the Week while
Andrew Cleland was named the Freshman of the Week as they helped lead CSU to a third-place team finish this past week.
Gillespie served as the Bucs' top finisher this past weekend at the Furman Invitational. He paced the squad with his tenth-place finish in a loaded field. He finished with a time of 19:19.99 to be just off his career best in the distance.
Cleland had a time of 20:17.75 to claim 34
th in the field. He was the seventh finisher for the Buccaneers on the day of the 21 runners that Charleston Southern had compete in the meet and was the fastest among the freshmen.
These mark the first awards the Bucs have received this season. Charleston Southern will be back in action on Friday, September 26 as they will compete in the Gans Creek Challenge with the University of Missouri to serve as the hosts. The course is the site for this fall's National Championship which will be held on Saturday, November 22.
